Award-Winning Dachshund Storytellers Release New Book
Hot dogs Woody and Chloe have done it again! Their book, Tails from the Bluegrass II, which chronicles the dogs’ travels through Kentucky, has earned them the Kentucky Department of Education’s Best Statewide Literary Award. The honor was in recognition of Tails from the Bluegrass II’s ability to get kids of all ages reading and learning about state geography.
Shhh! Children’s Book Author Leigh Anne Florence actually wrote the book, which is a follow up of her previous series of columns, Big Dog Mystery. The series won the 2006 SNPA NEI/Literary Award when it was packaged into a book, Tails from the Bluegrass. Then Tails II appeared in 85 newspapers statewide for 10 weeks, encouraging families to read fun, educational literature together. And now these hot-shot hot dog authors have a book hot off the press—that is, Tails from the Bluegrass II, the book! So now the well-loved Tails II series can be enjoyed as a storybook.
In addition, Florence’s new nationally syndicated column, Mr. Dogwood Goes to Washington, will start appearing in newspapers across the country in September. The 10-week column comes just in time to promote civic literacy in conjunction with Constitution Day.
Leigh Anne and her husband Ron Florence reside in Shepherdsville, KY with Woody, Chloe, two labs and two cats. Leigh Anne, along with Ron, Chloe and Woody spend their days in Kentucky schools, libraries and other venues speaking on “Woody’s Five Ways to be Successful” and “Woody’s Five Ways to Improve Writing.”
